About Shannon

My love for music came from my mother! She was a wonderfully inspiring piano teacher and had some violins hidden in her closet. On special occasions she would let me get them out and try to play them. Good strategy, Mom! I adored the violin and soon started to take lessons. My younger sister, Nancy, also played the violin and Mom would make fun arrangements for us to perform. We had a Strolling Violins company and would play at restaurants and even on the radio on Valentines Day. They called us the Syrup Sisters! I love the harmonies of two violins and have tried to carry that idea forward with my violin students in performing groups. I hope you enjoy some of these arrangements for violin ensembles.

I started taking violin lessons at 10 years of age and have been playing ever since. I studied with Andres Cardenes, Ralph Matson, Nellie Shkolnikova, Leonard Braus. I earned my Bachelors of Music in Violin Performance at the University of Utah, studied for a year at Indiana University and got a Masters Degree from U of U. I’ve played with the Utah Symphony, Fort Worth Symphony, Ballet West Orchestra, and the Idaho Falls Symphony. I’ve played with many ensembles for weddings and programs. It’s been a wonderful time and I feel so thankful.
I’ve been teaching violin for 40 years and love watching kids and adults develop their love for music as well.
